The Plastics Innovation Fund will support projects that reimagine how we make, use and dispose of plastics. The fund opens for expressions of interest in November.

Purpose of the funding

The focus of the fund is plastic waste minimisation.

Funding is available for projects that:

  • design out waste through packaging or system redesign
  • develop and scale up reusable solutions or business logistics
  • switch to materials that are recoverable through existing recycling systems
  • develop a recycling solution for plastics that are not currently recycled here
  • adopt technology to increase the circularity and value of recyclable plastics in New Zealand.

Who can apply

Any legal entity will be able to apply for funding.

We expect to receive applications from a wide range of organisations including:

  • businesses
  • iwi
  • hapū/community groups
  • local government
  • non-government organisations
  • industry bodies 
  • research organisations.
